The Media Literacy Council (MLC) will welcome 17 new members from the public, private and people sectors as it commences its third two-year term on 1 August 2016.
The MLC trawled social media to look for 50 individuals and groups who, in their own way, are making a better internet. It looked for people who exhibited the values of respect, responsibility, empathy, and integrity in their online interactions - be it posting a kind word or a constructive comment.
In support of tomorrow’s Safer Internet Day, a global initiative that invites everyone - young people, parents, teachers, educators, industry and safety organizations - to come together to focus on what we can do to “create a better Internet together”, Facebook and the MLC today launched a Bullying Prevention Centre in Singapore.
15 new members from the academic, legal, telecommunications and social sectors have joined the Media Literacy Council (MLC) to help drive public education on media literacy and digital citizenship, and advise the government on the policy responses to these emerging issues.
The Safer Internet Day (SID) is a public awareness initiative started in 2004 by the Insafe Network, a network of Awareness Centres funded under the Safer Internet Programme of the European Commission. The SID takes place on the second day of the second week of the second month every year and seeks to promote safe and responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people.
The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and the Media Literacy Council (MLC) have sealed an inaugural educational partnership to give students a deeper understanding of Internet, and social and mainstream media-related issues. This is the MLC’s first official partnership with a Post-Secondary Education Institution since the Council formed in August last year.
The Media Literacy Council (MLC), will be formed on 1 August 2012 to spearhead public education on media literacy and cyber wellness, and advise the government on the appropriate policy response to an increasingly complex and borderless world of media, technology, consumer expectations and participation.
